On Sunday, April 14, we had a fantastic day in the Ebro Delta with a great group of people. The delta is pretty brown this time of year, since the rice fields are barren, and most of the life is concentrated in the lagoons. Next month the fields will be flooded in preparation for spring planting, and the delta will take on a completely different look, which is one of the great things about the area, its forever changing face.
Passage migrants will stop over, and a new cycle of planting, growth, and harvest will begin. May is a great time to visit, with huge numbers of birds and few mosquitoes (always a factor later in the season with an area that is essentially one massive mosquito hatchery).
Book a day trip for one of the coming weekends, and enjoy the experience of seeing the birds below and a whole lot more.
